What Is Liquid Limestone?

Liquid limestone is a decorative concrete blend made from crushed limestone, cream cement, and concrete poured and finished on-site to create a smooth, seamless surface with a naturally cool, light-toned appearance. Unlike pavers, which are laid individually, liquid limestone is poured as a single continuous slab, eliminating joints, gaps, and the weeds and ants that come with them.

Liquid limestone is a WA-favourite surface. It suits the coastal, modern, and Hamptons-style aesthetics that are popular across Perth’s suburbs, and it works beautifully as a new pour or as a resurfacing layer over existing concrete.

Liquid limestone is ideal for:

  • Pool surrounds the number one application in Perth, staying cool underfoot even on 40°C days
  • Driveways – a clean, kerb-appeal upgrade with no weed gaps and no shifting pavers
  • Patios and alfresco areas – seamless indoor-to-outdoor transitions that suit WA’s outdoor lifestyle
  • Patios and alfresco areas – seamless indoor-to-outdoor transitions that suit WA’s outdoor lifestyle
  • Pathways and garden edges – a unified, low-maintenance surface throughout your property
  • Pool coping – limestone coping creates a clean, elegant edge around any pool style
  • Commercial entries and outdoor areas – a practical, attractive finish for cafes, resorts and hospitality venues

Why Liquid Limestone Is Perth's Favourite Outdoor Surface

Perth gets an average of 147 days of full sun and around 121 days of moderate sun per year. That level of UV intensity and heat puts outdoor surfaces under constant pressure and it’s why material choice matters so much in WA.

Liquid limestone has earned its reputation in Perth for one simple reason it genuinely performs better in our climate than most alternatives. Here’s why Perth homeowners consistently choose it:

Benefit What It Means for You
Stays cool underfoot Limestone's porous nature absorbs less heat - barefoot-friendly even on Perth's hottest days
No joints or gaps Seamless surface means no weeds, no ant nests, no shifting - unlike pavers
Slip-resistant finish Non-slip textures available - ideal for wet pool surrounds and alfresco areas
Natural light appearance Soft cream and white tones reflect heat and complement coastal, modern and traditional homes
Durable under vehicles & traffic Handles driveways and heavily used outdoor areas without cracking or eroding
Low ongoing maintenance Sealed surface resists staining, UV fading and pool chemical damage - annual pressure wash is all it needs
Fully customisable Colour tones, texture styles, decorative cuts and border options to suit any property

Our Liquid Limestone Installation Process

At Repave AU, every liquid limestone job follows our professional installation process - the same approach we've refined across 20+ years of Perth projects. Whether it's a small pool surround or a large driveway, every job gets the same attention to detail.

1

Site Assessment & Consultation

We start with a thorough inspection of the area. For new pours, we assess drainage, soil conditions, and whether reinforcement is needed. For resurfacing over existing concrete, we check for cracks, surface contamination, and structural integrity. We discuss colour, texture, and finish options with you during this visit.

2

Site Preparation & Excavation

For new installations, the area is excavated to the correct depth, the soil is compacted, and a crushed rock base is installed and levelled. Proper base preparation is the most critical factor in preventing future cracking and ensuring even drainage across the surface.

3

Formwork & Reinforcement

Durable formwork is installed to define the edges and shape of the pour. Steel reinforcement (mesh or reo bars) is laid to add structural strength and reduce the risk of cracking -particularly important for driveways that bear vehicle loads.

4

Mixing & Pouring

The liquid limestone blend - crushed limestone, cream cement, and concrete - is mixed to the correct ratio and poured into the prepared area. Our team works methodically to ensure consistent spread, correct depth, and full coverage to the edges and corners.

5

Finishing & Texturing

Once poured, the surface is finished to your chosen specification. Options include a smooth broom finish, exposed limestone texture, or decorative pattern cuts (diamond, tile-look, or custom designs). Non-slip profiles are applied for pool surrounds and wet areas. Decorative borders or contrasting edging can also be added at this stage.

6

Curing & Sealing

The surface is left to cure correctly before a high-grade sealer is applied. Sealing is essential for liquid limestone - it protects the porous surface from moisture ingress, pool chemical damage, UV fading, and staining. We use quality sealers that enhance the natural colour and provide long-term protection. Resealing every 2–3 years is recommended to maintain appearance and performance.

Yes – this is one of its biggest advantages for Perth homeowners. Liquid limestone’s porous limestone aggregate absorbs significantly less heat than darker concrete, exposed aggregate, brick, or pavers. It stays noticeably cooler underfoot even on Perth’s hottest days, making it the preferred choice for pool surrounds and barefoot entertaining areas.

No – liquid limestone can be finished with non-slip textures that comply with Australian safety standards for wet areas. We select the appropriate slip-resistance profile for each application. Pool surrounds, steps, and wet paths all receive a non-slip finish as standard. Sealing with an anti-slip sealer also adds further protection.

Yes – liquid limestone can be applied as a resurfacing layer over existing concrete that is structurally sound, at a depth of around 40–50mm. The existing surface must be clean, free of loose material, and properly prepared to ensure adhesion. We assess your existing concrete during the free consultation to confirm suitability.

When correctly installed with reinforcement and properly sealed, liquid limestone can last 20+ years in Perth conditions. The key to longevity is quality installation, appropriate base preparation, and resealing every 2–3 years. Avoid harsh chemicals near the surface and keep it clean with regular pressure washing.

Liquid limestone comes in two standard tones – a natural limestone cream and a darker charcoal. It can also be customised with colour additives for a wider palette, and paired with contrasting border colours or decorative cuts to create unique patterns. We’ll walk you through finish and colour options during your consultation.

Most residential liquid limestone projects are completed in 2–4 days. The surface can generally be walked on lightly within 24 hours and is ready for vehicle traffic within 48–72 hours. We provide a clear timeline for your specific job before we begin.

We service all Perth metro suburbs including Joondalup, Hillarys, Scarborough, Wanneroo, and throughout the northern suburbs and greater Perth metro area. Contact us to confirm availability for your location.
